The World's largest catfish, was weighed at 646 pounds,
captured in the Mekong River, Thailand, May 2005, and is also known as the Mekong Giant Catfish, and is being studied as a critically endangered species.
The spotted cat grow to 45 pounds averaging 14 years but are known to live to 20 years.
The shoveled head, of the appaluchion and the yellow skin denotes the second biggest inland water catfish. The United States record is 98.50, pounds, Lake Palestine TX, in nineteen hundred ninety eight. Flathead catfish can survive nineteen years and longer. Most species of catfish from clean water is very good table fare.

Report: After checking the weather reports decided to head for Spiddal to have some shelter from the wind. Set up in driving rain which only stopped once we got home  Vinny was in first with a pouting his first of the year  then he had another nice pouting followed by another i was having no joy, but i took comfort in a warm cup of coffee from my new crow proof flask  there was a swell running but thankfully it brought no weed with it and we were able to hold bottom comfortably with some spray coming over the wall reminding us just how strong it was blowing. Then a quick change of tack and i was finally off the mark with a coalie followed shortly after by another two coalies then a pollack. The rain was coming down in Biblical proportions as we were packing up and we were glad to be getting out of it as foolishly neither of us were wearing wellies and our boots were filling up with water as the constant rain began to soak through. Nice fishing with Vinny and we'll be back to try the mark again in better conditions.
